The Winnebago County Sheriff’s office has indicated that shortly after 10:00 a.m., on Sunday Feb. 25th, 2018, the River level at Latham Park was at 12.34 feet. The situation is causing moderate flooding in Edgemere Terrace area in Roscoe as well as along the Shore Drive area in the Village of Machesney Park. It is anticipated that the river will crest at a level of 12.6 feet in the near future, which will still be considered moderate flooding.
The Winnebago Sheriff’s Department as well as area Fire Departments, Village personnel, and Rock River Home Owners association are on standby in the event any evacuation of residents is necessary and will continue to monitor the situation.
Sheriff Caruana has been in contact with Com-Ed regarding the Fordam dam and was advised that it is open as much as possible in an attempt to relieve river levels. Com-Ed is also on standby in the event emergency power shut offs are needed.
Machesney Park Administrator Tim Savage advised that a sand-bagging operation is available to residents at the Village of Roscoe’s Public Works station located just east of Route 251 and Swanson Road. The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Inmate work crew will begin filling sandbags for residents to pick up if needed.
Barricades have been placed at numerous locations in the affected areas. Residents are advised to avoid driving through standing water on the roadways or around barricades.
