Machesney Park Mourns the Loss of Former Mayor Steve Kuhn

MACHESNEY PARK, IL  (May 28, 2024) – The Village of Machesney Park is deeply saddened to announce the passing of former Mayor Stephen “Steve” P. Kuhn on May 21, 2024. Mayor Kuhn, who served as the third mayor of Machesney Park from 1994 to 2001, was a dedicated public servant whose contributions to our community will be long remembered.

Steve Kuhn began his journey in public service as a member of the Village Plan Commission in 1988. He then served as a Village Trustee from 1989 to 1994 before being elected as Mayor, a position he held with distinction for seven years. Throughout his tenure, Mayor Kuhn was known for his commitment to the growth and development of Machesney Park. His vision and leadership played a pivotal role in shaping the Village into the vibrant community it is today.

Current Mayor Steve Johnson reflected on Mayor Kuhn’s legacy, stating, "Steve Kuhn was a pillar of our community whose leadership and dedication made a lasting impact on Machesney Park. He was not only a public servant but a true friend to many. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time. We are forever grateful for his service and the positive changes he brought to our Village."
