Machesney Park Offering Grants to Low-Income Residents for Home Repairs

Village now accepting applications

MACHESNEY PARK, IL (May 10, 2023) –
The Village of Machesney Park has been awarded a grant through the Illinois Housing Development Authority’s (IHDA) Home Repair & Accessibility Program (HRAP) to help eligible low-income homeowners pay for needed improvements to their homes. The Village was awarded $350,000 to provide grants to homeowners to facilitate repairs on approximately 6 homes. Eligible improvements include abatement of health and safety hazards through repairing or replacing roofs, windows, siding, furnaces, and air conditioners.

The Village is accepting applications for the program through Friday, May 26 at 4 p.m. Winners will be drawn via a lottery system at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, May 31 in the board room at Village Hall (300 Roosevelt Road).

Mayor Steve Johnson said that he is appreciative of the funding received from IHDA to operate the program, “The Village has worked hard to obtain this grant funding to help ensure our residents have safe and accessible homes.”

For those interested in applying, the initial application with the Village only requires the applicant’s name, address, phone, number of occupants, and the estimated combined household income. Village officials caution that not all projects or properties will qualify. For example, there are rules limiting eligibility for mobile homes, condominiums, and homes located in the floodplain.

Additionally, the value of the home must not exceed $130,000 prior to repairs.

More information about the program can be found on the Village’s website at machesneypark.org/homerehab. Program questions can be directed to Deputy Clerk Penny Miller at (815) 877-5432 or via email at PennyM@MachesneyPark.org.
