On December 14th, 2016, an ice jam has been observed in the Rock River with areas of concern along Shore Dr near the Bauer Pkwy bridge, Baldwin Dr, Queen Oaks and low lying areas of Ventura Blvd.
Flooding caused by ice blockage can be isolated and unpredictable due to variables inherent to ice such as stream flow, ice movement and changing weather conditions. Flood levels are subject to rapid changes and residents living along the Rock River are encouraged to visually monitor river levels in the areas of concern since stream gauge data is unreliable in winter conditions involving ice.
The Village of Machesney Park will continue to monitor river levels and send out updates through the Village’s website and Facebook page as they are needed.
