The next Metals and Electronics Recycling Event will be May 2, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the south parking lot of the Machesney Town Center.
Some metals, electronics and computers can now be taken to the Recycle Centers. located in Rockford and Roscoe.
Effective January 1, 2012, electronic devices may no longer be disposed of in landfills in Illinois. They must be disposed of through a collector/recycler/refurbisher licensed and approved by the State of Illinois. Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful has been an approved collector of electronic devices since 2010. Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful has recycled over 3 Million Pounds of metal, household appliances, and electronics since its first Metals Drive, in 1998.
The two Metals Drives of 2014, saw 1,478 people from the Stateline area drop off water heaters, washers, dryers, grills, phones, lawnmowers, stoves and more. Almost 200 volunteers transferred more than 181,000pounds of materials to trucks to be dismantled, separated and recycled into useful products.
