Machesney Park Offering Grants for Housing Rehab
Village Accepting Applications Through June 23rd
MACHESNEY PARK, IL (June 5, 2017) – The Village of Machesney Park will begin taking applications for the Building Better Neighborhoods single-family rehabilitation grant program on Tuesday, June 6th, 2017. The grant program provides low-income residents with an opportunity to apply for a forgivable loan that can be used to rehabilitate the interior or the exterior of their homes.
Earlier this year, the Village was awarded funding from the Illinois Housing Development Authority which the Village will use to administer the Building Better Neighborhoods grant program for single-family housing rehabilitation.
“The application process is simple and straight forward,” said Machesney Park Village President Steve Johnson. “This will be a win-win for the Village and our residents – we are excited to get this program rolling so that we can help our residents improve their homes.” said Mayor Johnson.
For those interested in applying, the initial application with the Village only requires the applicant’s name, address, phone, family size, and combined household income. There are several types of projects or properties that will not qualify, including:
- Mobile homes
- Homes in the floodplain
Additionally, the fair market value of the home must not exceed $120,000 prior to repairs. The fair market value is the current, assessed valuation published by the Winnebago County Treasurer’s Office.
The Village has received sufficient funding to provide grants for up to eight homes in Machesney Park. Village officials will accept applications through Friday, June 23rd at 4:00 p.m. A lottery drawing will be held to determine the order of grant awards on Wednesday, June 28th at 3:00 p.m., at Machesney Park Village Hall.
