FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ROCK RIVER EXPECTED TO REACH
MODERATE FLOOD STAGE
The Village of Machesney Park is monitoring river levels and advises residents living along the Rock River in low-lying areas to prepare for flooding. The Rock River in Machesney Park is now expected to crest at 13.4 feet on Tuesday (3/19/19) due to recent and forecasted rains. As a reference the river levels during the 2008 flood reached 14.3 feet and most recently in October 2018 reached 13.23 feet.
The river level at the Latham gauge on Ralston Road is 9.34 feet as of 12:30 p.m. on March 13, 2019. At the 11-foot flood stage, water may enter the interior of homes and begin to fill in around houses along the river in the areas of Shore Drive and Ventura Blvd and Queen Oaks Dr. Residents in homes susceptible to early flooding are encouraged to make plans for loss of vehicular access, utility service and possible evacuation of your home if necessary.
Sandbagging operations are available at the southwest corner of the former Machesney Park Mall located at 8702 N 2nd Street. Residents are urged to monitor river levels through the National Weather Service’s website at http://water.weather.gov and take appropriate actions as needed.
